On the first two nights of FAT we saw some great menswear from Kollar Clothing and plenty of plaid from Wani By Saki. By the third and fourth night of FAT we saw a variety of designers including Myles Sexton’s jewelry line and House of Diehl, a company based out of New York City that designs live on the runway using unique materials. The level of talent we’ve seen from these smaller labels was very impressive and makes us proud to be a part of the Canadian fashion scene.
House of Diehl Instant Couture
The design duo featuring MJ Diehl and Roman Milisic is all about producing statement designs live on the runway. The combination of fashion, art and performance easily captivated the audience as the duo cut off a simple jersey dress on the model and used to umbrellas to transform her look into something completely couture. Halfway through the process, as the final walk music came on the duo shouted “Not done yet!” and continued until the outfit was unrecognizable from the two umbrellas which were used. The design team has an impressive resume including making clothes for Lady Gaga and being a part of Gwen Stefani’s ‘Rich Girl’ music video. We loved the energy of the presentation, Diehl and Milisic offer a fresh new spin on the traditional runway approach and wowed the audience with their instant creation.
